A PENSIONER whose car hit a wall near a Banbury shopping centre was taken to hospital this afternoon.

Her car was severely damaged in the two-car crash in Market Square at 1.52pm.

Each of the cars had a person inside and firefighters quickly realised the woman, who is aged about 80, was trapped. They used hydraulic cutting equipment to get her out.

The woman was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said her injuries are not thought to be serious or life-threatening.

A man in the other car was discharged at the scene.

Members of the emergency services were helped by Castle Quay centre staff.

Watch manager Alan Hutchinson, from Banbury station, said: “We’d like to thank the Castle Quay staff and members of the public for this quick actions they took to assist with this incident.”
