MORE than 400 people flooded the fields at Bure Park Primary School in Bicester to celebrate the end of the season for Bure Park Juniors Football Club.

The club hosted an annual end of season barbecue to round off the season with friends and family.

Guest of honour for the event on Saturday, July 1, was Bicester Town Mayor Les Sibley who was on hand to award footballers their various trophies.

Bure Park Juniors Football Club welfare officer Neeru Lorimer said: "It was an honour to have the Mayor of Bicester present the trophies to the children and be part of an important community event."

The event saw hundreds of people enjoy a sizzling sausage or burger after working hard for the club all season.

Money raised at the event is to be ploughed back into the club and the committee hopes to be able to work towards expanding the club in the future.

It has 13 teams ranging from under-5s to the under-16s age groups, playing in both the Oxford Mail Youth League and the Witney & District Youth League, with 180 children registered.

Club chairman Danny Boakye-Yiadom is looking at the possibility of starting an all girls squad in the near future.
