A FOOTBALL match held in memory of a former Eynsham Youth Football Club player raised funds for teenagers and young adults with cancer.

The Ryan Bull Memorial Football Game was held at Eynsham Pavillion on Sunday, September 18.

Mr Bull, of Witney, who played for Eynsham and attended Henry Box School, passed away at the age of 20 on Monday, July 18, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

The day began with a minute of applause for Mr Bull, before a team of 11 from Eynsham played a team from Henry Box.

At full time the two teams were neck and neck with two goals each, but the team from the school managed to triumph in penalties.

A friend of Mr Bull, Dan Lynch, of Witney, was playing for the Henry Box 11.

He said: “The weather was great and it was a really nice atmosphere on the day. Everyone knew what they were playing for.

“It wasn’t sad, and that’s what he would have wanted. That’s why we had a minute’s applause instead of a minute’s silence.”

The Ryan Bull Memorial Shield was awarded to the winning team. The group have plans to hold sporting events each year as a memorial to their friend.

After the match the Henry Box 11 changed their name to Bully FC in memory of the former student.

The event raised funds for The Teenager and Young Adults Cancer Fund (0530), based at the Churchill Hospital, where Mr Bull was treated.

Each player made a £5 donation. The total amount collected on the day is not yet known.
