COMEDY writer Paul Mayhew-Archer will be among those being awarded Honorary Degrees at Oxford Brookes University today.

The Abingdon man, who co-wrote two of the most successful British sitcoms of the past 20 years - The Vicar of Dibley and Mrs Brown's Boys, will join a novelist, nurses and several other prominent figures from a number of fields in receiving the honour in Headington.

Opera Holland Park general manager Michael Volpe, KPMG partner Melanie Richards and Chartered Management Institute chief executive Ann Francke will also be honoured.

To mark 125 years of nursing education in Oxford, Dame Julie Moore and Professor Judith Ellis MBE will also be honoured.

They will be joined by The Reverend the Lord Leslie Griffiths and Dr Tim Cook.

Vice-chancellor of Oxford Brookes University, professor Alistair Fitt, hoped the script writer and other figures would inspire this year's crop of graduate.

He said: "Honorary graduates are always chosen very carefully.

"We consider how their particular strengths link with the work of the University and the conferment of the degree allows Brookes to acknowledge those whom we admire and respect.

"When graduating students hear an Honorary Graduate speak, they get an important reminder of what can be achieved."

He added: "Each of this year's recipients is an exception role model for our students and staff and I am honoured to have such inspirational figures join us for some of the University's most memorable moments."
