FIREFIGHTERS have said a car fire outside their own station in Bicester last night is being treated as suspicious.

A member of public called 999 to report the blaze at 11.42pm, and on arrival the crews discovered two cars which were “well alight”, and intense heat and smoke starting to affect the fire station.

Bicester fire station is unmanned, but used as a training area by the team.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said there was only minor damage to the building, but said the fire is being treated as suspicious and Thames Valley Police has been called in to investigate.

Group manager Richard Smith who attended the incident said: “The quick response from our dedicated and professional crews enabled us to swiftly extinguish the car fire and therefore minimize any damage to the adjacent fire station.”
