PEOPLE in Bicester have been urged to recommend buildings and monuments for a register of local heritage before a Christmas deadline.

Cherwell District Council is to draw up the list of local heritage assets in the new year, and wants residents, community groups and parish councils to identify structures of local importance that can be given the status.

The council will then seek to protect these buildings against planning applications.

District Council lead member for planning Michael Gibbard said: “We want to ensure that any local structures which are of importance to local communities are recognised as such but in order to do that we need help in identifying them.

“However, time is running out so anyone who would like to put forward a suggestion needs to do so before the Christmas deadline.”

It is part of the Government’s National Planning Policy Framework.
