A driver pulled up alongside a dog walker in Deddington, wound down his window and spat in her face, police said.
The incident happened at about 3.30pm last Saturday.
Police only released the details yesterday.
A police spokesman said: “A 42-year-old woman was walking her dog near Clifton Road when a grey Peugeot pulled up alongside her.”
The man is described as white, in his late twenties or early thirties, of medium build and with short dark hair.
Police believe that the last digits of the registration plate on his vehicle are PYT.
