BANBURY MAGISTRATES

  1. David Hatton, 32, of Jubilee Court, Banbury, admitted racially or religiously-aggravated fear or provocation by words or writing at Bridge Street, Banbury, on July 20. Fined £150 and told to pay £50 compensation, a £20 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  2. Shane Hemsley, 46, of Mayfield Close, Carterton, admitted assault by beating in Upavon Way, Carterton, on June 22. Community order made with 80-hour unpaid work requirement and told to pay £100 compensation, a £20 victims’ surcharge and £50 costs. This entry originally said that there was also a charge of committing a further offence whilst under a conditional discharge for theft. That was incorrect and we are happy to state Mr Hemsley has not faced any matters regarding any offence of dishonesty. We apologise to him for the error.
  3. Sabrina Sells, 30, of Bridge Street, Banbury, admitted assault by beating in Shackleton Close, Bicester, on July 30. Fined £75 and told to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £50 costs.
  4. Daniel Paintin, 23, of Bourton Close, Witney, admitted stealing six packs of Scottish salmon and two packs of diced lamb worth £31.97 from Morrisons Local in Witney and two legs of lamb worth £45.07 from Waitrose in Witney on April 30. Fined £200 and told to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  5. Robert Tomczyk, 31, of Dover Avenue, Banbury, admitted breaching a non-molestation order between July 7 and July 24 in Parklands, Banbury. Fined £250 and told to pay £85 costs.
  6. Thomas Bartlett, 21, of Parkers Circus, Chipping Norton, admitted drink-driving in London Road, Chipping Norton, on July 27. Had 73 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, above the legal limit of 35 micrograms. Given a 20-month driving ban and fined £260. Also told to pay a £26 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  7. David Beercroft, 65, of no fixed address, admitted making off without payment of £70.16 for petrol on December 2 at Ermont Way Service Station, Ermont Way, Banbury, on December 2. Told to pay £70.16 compensation. No further penalty.
  8. Allister Michie, 56, of High Coggs, Witney, admitted being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle in Marriotts Walk, Witney, on July 27. Had 114 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, above the legal limit of 35 micrograms. Fined £300 and told to pay a £30 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs. Given 10 points on driving licence.
  9. Gary Wickens, 32, of Leach Road, Bicester, admitted stealing confectionary worth £65 from Wilkinsons in Market Square, Bicester, on May 14, and confectionary of unknown value from McColls in Bicester on May 21. Given an 18-month conditional discharge and told to pay compensation of £66.50. 
  10. David Brooks, 22, of Banbury Road, Woodstock, convicted of assault by beating in Banbury Road, Woodstock, on December 29. Community order made with 200-hour unpaid work requirement and told to pay £134.50 compensation, a £60 victims’ surcharge and £375 costs.
  11. Carl Bradshaw, 28, of Green Close, Benson, Wallingford, admitted failing to give information as to the driver of a vehicle suspected to be guilty of an offence between October 28 and November 25 in Banbury. Fined £600 and told to pay a £60 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  12. Adam Chambers, 27, of Beaufort Close, Bicester, admitted stealing £30 worth of assorted meat products from Co-op in Buckingham Road, Bicester, on April 20, and £17 worth of baby milk powder from the same shop on February 17. Also admitted stealing £15 worth of alcohol from the same shop on April 21, £15 worth of food on May 29, three legs of lamb worth £45 on April 20. Also admitted stealing alcohol worth £40.25 from Co-op at Templars Square, Cowley, on August 11 and a pedal cycle of unknown value from a man in Bicester on April 15. Sent to prison for 20 weeks for being a persistent offender, stealing to feed a drug habit.
  13. Terrence Hanks, 34, of Luther Street, Oxford, admitted stealing a £4.75 bottle of sherry from Sainsbury’s in Oxford on August 11. Fined £20 and ordered to pay £4.75 compensation.
  14. Susanne Metcalfe, 38, of West Challow, near Wantage, admitted driving while disqualified and using a mobile phone while driving in Portway, Wantage, on July 15. Also admitted obstructing a police constable in the execution of their duty. Given a 10-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months. Ordered to pay an £80 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs. Banned from driving for six months.
  15. Gemma Rees, 24, of Brome Place, Headington, admitted using racially or religiously-aggravated words or writing at William Morris Court, Stowford Road, on June 7, with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress. Given a community order including a six-month supervision requirement. Ordered to pay a £60 victims’ surcharge and £20 costs.
  16. Jacqueline Rowland, 55, of Stratton Way, Abingdon, admitted destroying a Ford Focus car to the value of £75 in Stratton Way, Abingdon, on June 7. Also admitted destroying a car park belonging to Sovereign Vale Housing on Stratton Way on June 21 and 29 and destroying a Vauxhall Astra worth £1,114.79 in Stratton Way on June 7. Given a one-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 compensation.
  17. Norman Gourley, 62, of Paradise Street, Oxford, admitted stealing three cans of alcohol worth £6 from Marks & Spencer, in Queen Street, Oxford, on August 11. Also admitted stealing two cans of pina colada, worth £4, from the same shop on June 27, and a £5.99 bottle of wine from Tesco Express, St Aldates, Oxford, on July 8 and a £6.99 bottle of wine on July 11. Given a community order requiring a six-month alcohol dependency treatment programme and a 12-month supervision requirement. Ordered to pay a £60 victims’ surcharge.
  18. Andrea Selby, 31, of Canterbury Close, Banbury, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause alarm or distress at Albert Street, Banbury, on July 26. Also admitted failing without reasonable excuse to answer bail at Banbury Magistrates’ Court on August 11. Fined £110 and ordered to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  19. Claudio Checchia, 20, of Fettiplace Close, Appleton, admitted possessing methylmethcathinone, a Class B drug, in Marston Road, Oxford, on April 12. Fined £60 and ordered to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
