Banbury MP Sir Tony Baldry says police must explain why no charges were ever brought against Sir Jimmy Savile during the entertainer’s lifetime.
Speaking in the Commons in the wake of child sex abuse allegations against the star, Sir Tony said: “One cannot indict the dead, one cannot prosecute the dead and, as a consequence, one can never properly give justice to the victims of the dead.”
The Conservative MP asked Culture Secretary Maria Miller for assurances that police will look at “why no credible complaints against Savile ever resulted in charges”.
She said: “The fact that they have gone on over a number of years without receiving the recognition that they require will, of course, be at the heart of those investigations.”
