Hop to it and adopt an abandoned rabbit
8:00am Tuesday 25th September 2012 in News
FOR two decades, Carol Spencer has taken in abandoned rabbits and guinea pigs and found them new homes.
She has space for about 80 animals in her garden and works hard to find them new owners through her charity Tiny Paws.
That mission continued at the weekend, as 16 rabbits and guinea pigs were found new homes as part of Rabbit Awareness Week, which finished on Saturday.
Mrs Spencer, 42, pictured left, with Emma Satchell and Daisy-May Millwar, seven, from Bicester, said: “This all developed over the last 20-odd years and since we went on Facebook, we’ve had more coming in than ever.
“We have sheds in the garden for them and a few foster carers.
“It does tend to take up a lot of your time but we want to make sure they go to nice homes.”
Recently, Mrs Spencer took in eight guinea pigs who were found at an auction, being sold as snake food for £1 each. Unfortunately for the small charity, it transpired that each of them was pregnant.
She said: “We have guinea pigs coming out everywhere at the moment.”
