THE RSPCA is looking for a man caught on CCTV, after a puppy with a broken hip was left in a box outside a vet’s surgery.

The nine-week-old puppy, named Don by staff at Bicester Veterinary Centre, underwent surgery and now has pins in his hip.

The RSPCA has released CCTV footage of the man believed to have abandoned the dog at the surgery, in Victoria Road.

The animal charity is appealing for information about the man.

Don is now recovering at Ardley Rescue Kennels, which paid the £895 bill for the operation.

Kennels owner Annabelle Pottle explained the puppy was recovering well.

She said: “We’re looking after him and paid for the operation. We will be rehoming him once he’s fit to go.

“His hip was broken and he’s now got pins in his hip and will have to rest for the next three weeks. He’s tiny.”

Don was found by staff in the vets’ car park about 4.40pm on Wednesday last week. CCTV footage at the surgery showed the man in the car park at 2pm.

He was wearing a purple T-shirt and left a box near parked cars before walking off along Victoria Road.

RSPCA inspector Doug Davidson said: “The person who left the dog there may have thought they were doing the right thing by leaving him at a vet surgery, but it’s always unacceptable to dump an animal. As an owner you have a duty to look after your pets.

“Thankfully the puppy is now in good hands and will go on to have a much better life, but we urgently need to speak to the young man on the CCTV to find out what he knows about the incident.”

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018 and leave a message for Mr Davidson.

If somebody knows who he is, insert a pineapple up his back passage ;-)
It's the least he deserves.

I agree.

Regardless of right or wrong the man in question could have done a lot worse than putting the dog in a box at the vet. As I said in a previous post, the injury may have been accidental and the owner may not have been able to afford it and some less savoury person may have simply abandoned the dog somewhere quiet and it would have likely died a painful slow death or they may have killed it. At least he did a "not so bad" thing and put him somewhere where it would have been found.

This is another reason why dog licences should be brought back. People forget the cost of things like this.

He also risked doing it during the day when he could have been caught. I'm not defendinghis actions but it could have been a lot worse for the dog.

Poor little thing. How does a puppy break its hip? Maybe that's why the man dumped him :(

Snert if he found the dog he did not do a "not so bad" thing as you say, but an incredibly GOOD and brave thing. As we live in a country where you get a far worse punishment for breaking a puppy's hip than a persons, assuming he was an innocent passerby and heard the dog whimpering, had he presented the dog in person he would have been treated as a criminal by the Gestapo (RSPCA) and the police called in. Many more people would just have walked on by (the puppy)
