OAP quit hospital despite hepatitis
6:00pm Saturday 7th July 2012 in News
A PENSIONER who discharged herself from hospital having been admitted with hepatitis died soon after, an inquest heard.
Evelyn Patterson was found clutching a hot water bottle in her bed by a worried friend just a day after the self-discharge.
The 77-year-old had been admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford on March 16 and was treated for hepatitis.
But three days later she walked out of the hospital against the wishes of her doctors and was found dead on March 20 at her home in Longfellow Close, Bicester. The inquest in Oxford on Thursday heard the retired chiropodist had a history of alcohol abuse which exposed her to pneumonia.
Coroner Darren Salter recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
