Olympic theme proves an inspiration

WITH the start of the Olympics just weeks away pupils at one school have created their own version of Olympic rings, medals and torch.
Children at Five Acres Primary School, Ploughley Road, Ambrosden, near Bicester, spent a week creating art work with an Olympic theme.
Pupils used a range of mediums from clay, wire, paint, printing and even potatoes to make Greek statutes, pictures, Olympic torches and medals.
Youngsters also worked in groups to create models of the iconic rings.
Teacher Jane Leaver said: “The whole school spent the whole week doing nothing but art, it was called the Olympic Arts Week.
“They were all inspired by the Olympics, focusing on movement and physical form and embracing different cultures.
“The exhibition was fantastic, the parents loved it, and the children loved working together.”
Year four pupil Harriet Symes said: “I loved learning about all different countries and cultures during Olympic art week.
“It was great going into all different classes and doing something unusual every day.”
Fellow pupil Heidi Fraser said: “Art week was fun, especially seeing everyone’s finished work all together at the exhibition at the end of the week. My favourite part was using clay to make a huge model of an Ancient Greek Olympian.”
