Fire crews merger

Plans to create a single fire control room for Oxfordshire and Berkshire will be discussed today.

Fire chiefs are pressing ahead with a merger after a Thames Valley scheme collapsed last year.

The committee will meet at 10am at County Hall, Oxford. The public can attend.

The original comment makes a completely valid point; what use is it telling OM readers about a meeting that the public can attend, after it's started?

For starters it's gramatically incorrect, specifically in the wrong tense... it should say "The public could attend", not "can".

And to top it off that isn't the only glaring inaccuracy in the article, it isn't a "Thames Valley" scheme that collapsed last year but rather a NATIONAL scheme for the regionalisation of Fire Control rooms which would have involved the services in question becoming served by a much larger "South East" regional control room.

Quite how the reporters can **** up such a tiny story so badly is beyond me?

Further it should say "were discussed" not "will be discussed".

In future I'd suggest to the reporter/editor that when they realise at nearly midday they've forgotten to post a story about a 10am meeting they just say "oops" and don't bother posting it at all to save the embarassment.
