A FUNDRAISING page is aiming to help a family get back on their feet after a fire tore through their home and destroyed most of their belongings.

The Davies family were devastated after the fire took hold of the upstairs of their home in Barry Avenue, Bicester.

Clothes, furniture and children's games were among the belongings reduced to ashes in the accidental fire on May 31 and the family of five were left homeless.

In response, the community has now come together in support and close friend Nicki Baynes has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to help them replace their belongings.

Ms Baynes said she set up the page in a bid to help the family replace all that was lost, including clothes and other items that were smoke damaged.

She also hoped it would help tide them over while they faced an uncertain wait to return home.

Lynne Davies, who lived at the house with her husband and three children for the past four years, said: "The fire originated in the bedroom.

"We lost everything upstairs including beds, wardrobes, clothing, kids toys, books, our gaming computers.

"Since the fire our home has had to be completely emptied so it can be tidied up.

"We requested our insurance company found us adequate accommodation so that we could easily get our six-year-old to school, however it is now reaching five weeks since the fire and we still haven't had anything sorted."

The mum-of-three said they spent the first week following the fire with her mum in a one-bed flat in Thame.

The family have since moved around other family members' homes including two places in Aylesbury, meaning it has cost £100 a week to travel on buses, with three children in tow, to get the children to school in Bicester.

Mrs Davies added: "My husband has been dropping us in Buckingham on his way to Milton Keynes in the mornings, then we could get the X5 bus to Bicester and the 21 Greyline bus to the Greenwood Estate to get my eldest to school.

"I suffer with Fibromyalgia so this journey has been incredibly draining and demanding for me, as well as my six-year-old son causing issues with his epilepsy."

Mrs Davies said she also had to be signed off work due to the stress of the fire. She added: "I am incredibly stressed but I am in survival mode.

"I am pushing myself every day beyond my limits to make sure I am doing what is best for my children.

"My whole family is struggling: my three-year-old in particular is having issues settling to sleep at night and has spoken about the fire at bedtime every night since it happened.

"He is upset, it's the biggest event that's ever happened to him. Unfortunately in my life I've learnt that these things happen and you have to keep going and roll with the punches otherwise the situation will get the better of you."

The family continue to power through and were able to move into a short-let in Bicester on Monday after having issues with their insurance company finding them somewhere to live.

In the meantime, the fundraising page has already raised £220. To support the family go online to gofundme.com/help-the-davies-family-after-fire
