BICESTER Town scored a late winner on Saturday to retain their slim hopes of winning the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East Championship.

Wayne Blossom struck in the first minute of injury time to secure a 3-2 victory away to Thame Rangers in their final game.

The result saw John Prpa’s side finish on 54 points, two clear of Virginia Water at the top.

But the Surrey side need just one win from their last two home games – against AFC Aldermaston tonight and Thame on Saturday – to pip them for the title.

In a dramatic game, Bicester led 2-1 at half-time thanks to goals from Robert Johnson and Dean Smith, with Dan Hatton replying for the visitors.

Thame, who also missed a penalty, drew level through Patrick Buston in the 77th minute, but Blossom’s last-gasp strike delayed Virginia Water’s celebrations.
