CHAMPIONS Ardley United celebrated in style as they finished a triumphant season on a high note.

After receiving their trophy for winning the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 West title, Craig Adey’s side, who clinched the title a fortnight earlier, recorded a 3-1 win at home to Cirencester Town’s Development side.

And it was a special night for club chairman Ian Feaver’s son Alex, who scored twice in his last game before hanging up his boots to spend more time with his young family.

Ardley went into the final game, having lost their previous two matches.

On Saturday, they suffered a resounding 4-1 defeat away to Clanfield (85).

Callum Miller scored a hat-trick for the hosts, whose other goal came from Nathan Kimber. Billy Gillett netted for Ardley.

However, Adey’s team got off to a great start against Cirencester on Tuesday, when Deon Gallacher burst through to put them ahead.

The strong visitors levelled after 25 minutes and deserved to be level at half-time.

Despite wave upon wave of attacks in the second half, Ardley had to wait until the 79th minute before regaining the lead through Feaver.

Then two minutes later, he struck again to seal the win and start the celebrations.

Ian Feaver said; “What a great night we had. It was amazing and I couldn’t have written the script better myself.

“We also had all of our youth team players in attendance in full Ardley kit to join in.

“To see my son score that brace in his last ever match was so very special.

“I’m going to enjoy the summer break now, but we will be ready to tackle the Premier Division next season.

“We are now ready both on and off the pitch to take this step up and can’t wait to get started.

“Our youngsters under our youth chairman, Eddie Duggan, are well set.

“This season has just been the start and exciting times are ahead.”
