THAMES Valley Police will deploy armed officers, sniffer dogs and Hostile Vehicle Mitigation barriers at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it has been revealed.

The force will also send officers on horseback and use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology and CCTV to police the event in Windsor on May 19, and visitors may be randomly searched.

Details of the plans were revealed this month by Vale of White Horse District Council leader Matt Barber, who is also deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley.

In a newsletter to constituents, Mr Barber urged anyone attending the event to remain vigilant of suspicious activity.

He wrote: “Visitors to the town can expect to see our officers, both armed and unarmed, our search dogs and our mounted section out and about in the coming weeks and months.

“A broad range of visible security measures are already in place, such us the extensive network of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, Close Circuit Television (CCTV) and Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) barriers.

“There are also many security measures that you can’t see.

“As ever we encourage local businesses, our communities and visitors to continue to be our extra eyes and ears.

“If you see something that doesn’t look right, let us know and we will look into your concerns fully.”

He said anyone travelling by car or train may be stopped and searched.
