Good vibrations Former Beach Boy Brian Wilson will perform the band’s iconic Beach Boys album Pet Sounds live at Cropredy Festival this year.

The artist, who wrote, composed, produced and arranged the LP, will headline the Thursday at the festival, organised by the folk-rock band Fairport Convention.

He will perform such well-loved songs as Wouldn’t It Be Nice, Sloop John B, and God Only Knows, providing perhaps the biggest headline show ever seen at the event, formally called Fairport’s Cropredy Convention.

The 1966 album is regularly cited as one of the best records in the history of rock and Brian Wilson as among the most influential artists and producers.

He will be joined at the north Oxfordshire event by Fairport Convention, Oysterband, Levellers, Marillion frontman Fish and Kate Rusby, Al Stewart and Afro-Celt Soundsystem, among others.

The Thursday night slot is traditionally the most interesting and eclectic offering a contrast to the traditional bill of folk-influenced music.

Previous acts to have graced the stage at the site, near Banbury, include The Proclaimers, Alice Cooper, Emmylou Harris, Waterboys, Status Quo and last year’s act The Divine Comedy.

The festival from August 9-11. Three-day tickets cost £135 until June 1, from fairportconvention.com
