A NEW fitness concept has launched in Bicester to take adults back to the playground and get them fit with a host of activities.

The Bicester Rabble sessions have just begin at Whitelands Farm Sports Ground in Kingsmere, still in time to help people with their new year health kicks.

The aim is to run weekly, sometimes biweekly, sports sessions in the evenings to get adults active. in line with the Healthy Bicester bid to follow the NHS healthy town scheme.

Sarah Plater, who lives on the Kingsmere estate, is the games instructor who runs Bicester Rabble.

She said: “It is really tough to keep doing exercise that you don’t enjoy, as every time you have to convince yourself to do it for the long-term fitness gains.

“Bicester Rabble takes the opposite approach.

“It is fun, so you look forward to going every week.

"It is friendly, so you have great banter and social encouragement.

"The fitness it brings you is almost incidental: you don’t realise how much you are moving because you’re totally focused on playing the games.”

Bicester Rabble offers immersive playground-style games to get grown-ups moving, such as capture the flag, the Hunger Games, dodgeball, British bulldog and jailbreak.

The group says it hides high intensity interval training (HIIT) within the rules of old-school team games.

Freya Wilson is one of Bicester Rabble’s players, she said: “The people are a really friendly bunch. I haven’t enjoyed a workout that much in years.

“I found the games completely accessible and fun regardless of being extremely unfit.

“The main focus is having a laugh and being friendly with the workout going almost unnoticed. I’m definitely going again.”

The sessions run every Monday night at 6.45pm, with the occasional Thursday night sessions also.

Przemek Rybka, who lives in Bicester, said: “Great get-together for our community and a great workout, and even bigger fun.

“I have already booked for next week and I hope that this becomes a regular event for many homes’ calendars in our town.”

It comes after Bicester was announced as one of 10 NHS New Healthy Town’s in March which aim to ensure health is built in to everyday life and encouraged in new housing developments.
