A CONTROVERSIAL plan to put 200 homes next to a landfill site might not be decided until July.

Villagers in Sutton Courtenay are in a state of limbo as a decision rumbles on about Redrow’s plan to build the homes off Hobbyhorse Lane.

Earlier this month Vale of White Horse District Council’s planning committee defied its own council policy by rejecting the plan, raising concerns about access and contamination risks.

Their shock consensus came despite the site’s inclusion in part one of the council’s own Local Plan, a development blueprint that agreed the same land was suitable for up to 220 homes.

The council’s cabinet member for planning, Roger Cox, threw out the decision the following day and ordered a ‘cooling off period’ that will see the application return to the same committee following further analysis.

It was originally thought the application might reappear at the Vale’s planning meeting at The Beacon tonight, but it was not listed on the agenda.

A council spokesman said: “This application will go back to planning committee once we have received traffic management analysis relating to Culham Bridge and the route from theA415 to the junction of Appleford and Abingdon Road.

“This survey work is due to take place after the Easter holidays.”

Villagers were outraged after the council overturned its councillors’ decision, claiming it undermined the democratic vote.

Residents were sent an email from the council's development manager yesterday that said the traffic analysis report was not expected to be finished until June, meaning it is unlikely the application will return to committee until 'the beginning of July'.

She said further investigation is also ongoing about drainage on the site.

In reaction to the revised time frame, Sutton Courtenay resident Callum MacKenzie said: "How much more is this going to cost the Vale and the local community to throw this unsuitable development out?"
