A DRIVER and passenger had a lucky escape after a car rolled over completely and was impaled on a bollard in Bicester.

The incident took place at about 8.45am on Friday, November 25 in Churchill Road, with firefighters saying the low sun can make it difficult to see the road ahead.

The vehicle rolled over on the traffic island and was stuck on a side bollard, with the two occupants helped out by passers-by.

Two fire engines from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were sent to the scene along with Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service.

The pair both needed medical attention from paramedics.

Incident Commander Pete Mackay said: “The occupants of the car were fortunate not to have suffered more serious injuries as the car had rolled completely over onto a solid bollard with it impaling the car between the front seats.

"Fortunately the passing public assisted and physically moved the vehicle off the bollard before our arrival to help the occupants.

"At the time of the incident the sun was very low causing difficulties for drivers and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service would like to remind all drivers of the need to take extra care on the roads as the weather changes and we move into winter."
