A WEIRD and wonderful quiz night featuring plenty of adventure on the high seas will be held at The Story Museum to coincide with National Volunteer Week.

The 'Most Unusual Quiz Night' on Wednesday, June 1 will be inspired by pirate stories of all kinds, including literature, fairy tales, films and folklore.

Similar events have been held at the Story Museum since the start of the year, each with a different theme. Past quizzes have been based around Harry Potter and animals, and guests are encouraged to come in fancy dress to earn extra points for their team.

Next week's event will be the fifth quiz organised by staff at the museum in Pembroke Street.

It also marks National Volunteer Week, during which volunteers across the UK are recognised and thanked for their efforts.

The Story Museum has been supported by unpaid volunteers since its inception in 2014, many of whom have gone on to become full-time staff.

Volunteer co-ordinator Lauren Greenaway said: “We’re thrilled that this event has become so successful. When the volunteers first approached us with the idea for the quiz night we thought it sounded great, but had no idea that it would become such a hit with the people of Oxford.

"All of our volunteers are extremely generous with their time in supporting The Story Museum. Their contribution is really important to the magical experiences we provide for our visitors.”

Tickets cost £3. A bar will be open from 6.30pm and the quiz begins at 9pm. Anyone aged 16 or over is welcome. For more information or tickets call 01865 305305.
