BUS fares across the city are set to increase later this month but passengers from Abingdon stand to get a better deal.

Oxford Bus Company has announced that some of its day passes as well as a single journey fares will rise by up to 10p on May 29.

The total increase in prices across services equates to 1 per cent but the airline coach service cost to Heathrow airport will jump by £1 for adult returns.

One the same the Abingdon route pass will be replaced by a 'cityzone Extra' ticket giving users unlimited travel across Oxford city once they have arrived from Abingdon.

Next month Heathrow and Gatwick season ticket holders will also be able to travel on a new Birmingham Airline service at no extra cost.

Oxford Bus Company managing director Phil Southall said: "We know that good value fares are important to our customers but unfortunately some level of increases are essential to help us deal with rising costs.

"We have listened to our customers in Abingdon and hope that they will welcome the great value offered by the new cityzone Extra product and will use this to make more of our comprehensive network of services across the city."
