A LOVED-UP couple who got engaged on Leap Day via a proposal on the Oxford Mail website have now set a date for a romantic winter wedding.

Sarah Drew, 36, proposed to boyfriend of 12 years Adam Brooks by setting up a very prominent advert on the Oxford Mail's home page seen by thousands on February 29.

She was overjoyed when he said yes, and the pair have now organised to get hitched on New Year's Eve this year.

The pair, who live in Kysbie Close, Abingdon, have chosen to tie the knot at Milton Hill House in Steventon, and said they are excited to see in 2017 as husband and wife.

With all her usual dynamism, Miss Drew said it was now "all systems go".

She said: "We decided that we couldn't wait until 2018 and 2017 was not an option with work commitments, football and two of our friends getting married in the summer.

"I don't think I've had such a manic few weeks."

February 29, Leap Day, was traditionally the only day when a woman could propose to a man.

Mr Brooks, 40, who works at Beard Construction in Cumnor, said he never saw the proposal coming in such an imaginative way.

He said: "I was overjoyed that she asked and was so happy to say yes. We're meant to be together.

"I thought the advert was fantastic, I was really impressed."

The couple met at the now-closed Cross Keys pub in Abingdon when Miss Drew then worked behind the bar and Mr Brooks was part of the pub's football team.
