MORE children in care in the county have achieved good reading, writing and maths results than in previous years.

A report which will be examined by Oxfordshire County Council’s education scrutiny committee today showed 53 per cent of pupils who had been in care for at least 12 months achieved level four in the three subjects.

The figures, which relate to children who were in care as of March last year, are higher than the 41 per cent who achieved the same level in 2014 and the 46 per cent of 2013.

Oxfordshire’s figure was also above the national average of 48 per cent.

The percentage of pupils achieving level five in each of the three subjects also rose, with a big increase from six per cent to 20 per cent in maths.

The report also highlighted the way in which pupil premium money – funding schools are given to help disadvantaged children – was allocated to ensure those in need benefited.

The report will be examined by councillors at County Hall in Oxford from 10am today.
