PUPILS at Edward Feild Primary School swapped uniforms for capes and masks as part of a book launch.

Kidlington author Jo Cotterill visited the school on Friday to promote her new children's book, Electrigirl, which features a 12-year-old who gets struck by lightning and gains superpowers.

Pupils came in dressed as their favourite superheroes, enjoyed comic strip drawing workshops and were able to buy their own copy of the book.

Mrs Cotterill, whose daughter Jemima goes to the school, said: "The whole day was brilliant. The school was really supportive and the kids were fantastic as well.

"After school, we even sold out of the books."

The story itself is split into two, with the first part in novel form and then the tale of the girl using her superpowers portrayed in comic book style.

Joining the author for the launch was illustrator Cathy Brett, who drew the pictures, and fellow writer Cas Lester, who was promoting her own book Wilfred the (Un)Wise.

It tells the story of a magically-challenged wizard apprentice who travels forward in time and is forced to use his magic to adapt to unfamiliar surroundings.

Both books are available now at bookshops and online at Amazon.
