THERE are still a few days left to see the fabulous stage production of The Bodyguard, starring X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.

Based on the hit movie of the same title, The Bodyguard starts with a bang and the fast-paced storyline keeps audiences enthralled right until Burke and Co belt out the final number. The show runs at the Oxford Playhouse until Saturday.

Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard Frank Farmer, played by Stuart Reid, is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker.

As Frank takes charge of protecting Rachel, she fights against his restrictions, however, soon she realises her life and that of her family is at risk and she must put her trust in Frank.

Using a mixture of great scenery and film footage, the show quickly introduces us to Rachel and her lifestyle.

The large white windows and flowing curtains create the atmosphere of an LA mansion, while the scene changes are seamless.

Burke is brilliant as Rachel, who was played by the late Whitney Houston in the 1992 movie.

With her slightly husky voice, Burke performs Whitney’s tracks impeccably and the audience lapped it up. Classic tunes including Queen of the Night, So Emotional, One Moment in Time, Saving All My Love, I’m your Baby Tonight, Run to You, I Have Nothing, Jesus Loves Me, I Wanna Dance With Somebody lifted the theatre’s roof, while you could have heard a pin drop during Burke’s rendition of I Will Always Love You.

Melissa James, who plays Rachel’s sister, Nicki, is also worthy of a mention, as was the adorable actor who played her son Fletcher.

Alexandra Burke won the 2008 X Factor and has since released two albums and is working on her third.

For me, she was great, pushing The Bodyguard into my top five best musicals.
