MULTI-award winning theatrical production Stomp returns to the New Theatre, Oxford, this month.

The show, which runs from Tuesday to Saturday, October 13 to 17, is this year celebrating its 20th anniversary of bringing its foot-taping sensation to audiences across the globe.

From a single drum hanging around Luke Cresswell’s neck back in 1991, Stomp has since taken on a life of its own.

Creators and co-directors Cresswell and Steve McNicholas have developed a unique, universal language of rhythm, theatre, comedy and dance. Watch as the cast create tunes from rubber hosing, lighters, plastic bags, bin lids and a kitchen sink.

Stomp has no words, little or no melody in the traditional sense, so it doesn’t matter if your taste in music is jazz, classical, dance or pop.

To date, about 14 million people across 50 countries have seen the show.

Since the last visit to Oxford, the Stomp cast has performed in the closing ceremony at the 2012 Olympics and introduced two new pieces to the show, called Frogs and Trolleys.

Trolleys taps into the experience of negotiating a busy shopping aisle with a supermarket trolley before it is given the Stomp treatment.

Frogs explores the bizarre sonic possibilities of a variety of plumbing fixtures.

Still remaining is Stomp’s signature high-octane meeting of slick choreography, tight ensemble work, industrial percussion and anarchic clowning by a troupe of eight who turn everyday items into sophisticated instruments.

Stomp has won a string of awards, including an Olivier Award in 1994 for best entertainment and best choreography. It has made three appearances on the Royal Variety Show and created special performances for the Oscars.
