A BLITZ on fly-tipping, graffiti and litter has helped spruce up Kidlington.

Members of Cherwell District Council’s green team have been out in force in the village throughout this week, not only cleaning up, removing rubbish and dog mess, but also visiting people in their homes, by appointment, to give free advice on cutting down on household waste.

In a bid to help residents declutter, the council has picked up to three bulky items per household for free, and has had about 60 requests to do so. Usually, it charges for the service.

On Tuesday, the council posted a picture on Twitter of dumped rubbish containing wallpaper that had been dumped on land near Sainsburys in Oxford Road.

Cherwell’s lead member for clean and green services, Debbie Pickford, said the results of the blitzes were “bittersweet”.

She explained: “If every single person were to take responsibility for ensuring their own litter was correctly disposed of, these small actions would collectively make a big difference.”

The next council blitz will be in the Grimsbury area of Banbury from November 16 to 20.
