THE Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley Police has raised his concerns over “large cuts” in funding with the Home Secretary.

Anthony Stansfeld met Theresa May on Thursday to discuss the implications of a new funding formula.

Last week Devon and Cornwall’s PCC revealed that TVP faced more than £43m worth of cuts, according to its own assessment of the formula – the largest of any UK force.

Following the Home Secretary’s visit to the PCC’s office, Mr Stansfeld said he was confident it would not be that much.

Candy Heinrich, from the PCC office, said: “A wide number of issues were covered, including the PCCs concerns about the new formula grant which would appear to result in further large cuts to TVP funding.

“The PCC made his concerns known, and the Home Secretary has been made aware of the implications. However the consultation document is open to a number of different interpretations and the PCC is confident it will not be implemented in the way that has been publicised.”

The new formula for allocating police funds – out to consultation – takes into account issues including population, deprivation levels and pub density.
