TWO men have died after the microlight they were flying crashed at Enstone airfield.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene at 7.20pm on Friday.

The pilot, a man in his 60s, and the passenger, a man in his 50s, were both confirmed dead at the scene.

Police said their next-ofkin have been informed, but their names have not been released.

A team of investigators were on the scene at 8.30am the next day assessing the scene and looking for the reason why the plane crashed.

Afandi Darlington, a senior inspector from the Government’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch, said: “We will recover the wreck back to Farnborough for detailed examination to see if any explanation can be found.”

The airfield was closed while investigators were at the scene. This meant the weekend’s British Microlight Aircraft Association’s Single Seat Deregulated Microlight Freedom Rally was suspended until Sunday.

Fire Service incident commander Mick Clarke said: “This was a tragic incident.”
