OXFORDSHIRE is set for a wet Bank Holiday after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain until 11.50pm today.

A number of festivals and outdoor events could be affected by the rain, which is forecast to reach the county from the south west.

Up to 30mm of rain could fall and will be accompanied by strong winds, the Met Office said.

Forecasters said people should be aware of the potential impact on holiday travel and outdoor activities.

Festival organisers said they have taken precautions and hope events will carry on as planned.

Towersey Festival organiser Joe Heap said: “We are used to bad weather – it will be fine. Most of our big stages are under covers, so it will just go ahead as normal.”

Steeple Aston Flower Show chairman Richard Preston said: “We are doing all the events we can under cover. We have a huge marquee and two community buildings so we are ready for anything the weather throws at us.

“Entries are up to about 250 so apart from the weather everything is looking absolutely superb.”

Met Office chief forecaster Eddy Carroll said: “A complex area of low pressure will bring an unexpected day’s weather to much of England and Wales on Monday. Rainfall amounts are likely to exceed 15mm quite widely, while a few places could see more than 30mm.

“There will be a lot of surface water and spray on roads, and winds will be locally strong and gusty.”

A yellow warning means people should be aware of risks posed by the weather and expect minor travel delays.
