ORGANISERS of a classic car heritage day are looking forward to their next event after almost 1,000 people attended their first two.

Hundreds of people have turned out to see a variety of classic and vintage cars, motorbikes, tractors and commercial vehicles at Bicester Heritage park.

The Sunday Brunch Scramble Events will now take place on a by-monthly schedule, with the next one due to happen on October 5.

Other on-site attractions included a traditional sign writer, a valeting company and rides on the hugely popular ‘Burrel’ Traction Engine.

David Elliott-Smith, of Southwold estate, Bicester, visited with his six-year-old son Rhys on Sunday.

They brought along a family heirloom – a leather fighter pilot’s helmet which made it through the Second World War.

It belonged to David’s father’s friend, who was known to the family as Uncle Victor, who flew Spitfires, Typhoons and Tempests during the war.

When David was five it was given to him to keep.

David, who is now 53, said: “We had a great time, even though the weather was trying it’s best to stop us.

“We are so privileged to have the airfield opposite us, and have it being used rather than houses built on it.

“I didn’t realise how much work had been done to the site already, and the collection of cars was fantastic.’’
