Passengers give their verdict on Oxfordshire's rail services

Bicester Advertiser: Passengers give their verdict on Oxfordshire's rail services Passengers give their verdict on Oxfordshire's rail services

PASSENGERS on the county's three rail operators have given their verdict on each service.

The annual National Rail Passenger Survey was released today from the independent consumer organisation Passenger Focus.

A total of 1,146 Chiltern Railways passengers took part in the survey which saw the firm receive a “satisfaction score” of 92 in spring 2014– up from 89 in spring 2013 and 91 in autumn 2013.

Passengers were asked to score firms out of 100 on how happy they were with their last journey.

Cross Country scored 82 in spring 2014, after 1,129 of its passengers were surveyed - down from 85 in autumn 2013 and 84 in spring 2013.

First Great Western received a satisfaction score of 80 after 3,050 passengers had their say on the company. It is the same score the firm received in surveys in autumn and spring 2013.

But it is less than the national passenger satisfaction score of 82 for spring 2014.

I'm no fan of FGW but I'd sooner be on a FGW train than one of XC's dog-boxes. By any measure their offering is worse than FGW's.

I think we're seeing the 'distress purchase' effect here, whereby commuter services never do that well.

FGW's stopping-service trains from London to Oxford could be improved by them being cleaned occasionally.
I've been on trains in third world countries which are cleaner than these.
