Twelve calls attended as firefighters strike
8:30am Saturday 14th June 2014 in News
Firefighters attended 12 incidents in Oxfordshire on Thursday during the strikes against pension reforms.
Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) picketed at fire stations in Banbury, Headington, Oxford, Kidlington, Abingdon and Didcot for 24 hours, ending yesterday at 9am.
But Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service had cover from non-striking firefighters and was able to use 19 out of 34 fire engines.
Calls included unlocking a car with a baby left inside in Sunningwell Road, Oxford, and putting out a small fire caused by a bonfire in Shotover.
The Oxfordshire branch of the FBU, which has about 500 members, said about 95 per cent of those on duty had taken action.
