FIREFIGHTERS in Oxfordshire will join a national strike over pension reforms today.
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) is taking industrial action for 24 hours from 9am.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has pledged to respond to every 999 call during the strike using a mixture of non-striking full-time personnel and on-call staff to provide cover locally.
It has asked residents to keep Oxfordshire homes and roads safe by checking that smoke alarms work, electrical sockets are not overloaded and vehicles are roadworthy.
A further strike will take place on Saturday, June 21 from 10am to 5pm.
