As a non-meat eater, I don’t need to go anywhere near butchers and if this is how they carry on, I shall carry on past, eyes forward on the hunt for more houmous. This is an odd but definitely engaging shot from Ed Nix, down at the Covered Market where Hedges Butchers made a fitting backdrop for the Oxford Playhouse Betty Blue Eyes press call. Lauran Logan plays Betty and apparently her co-star is a talking pig who is facing the chop.

There’s always room for a bit of surrealism in photography, and – well they certainly have it in armfuls down at the Alice 3.0 multi-sensory exhibition at the Museum of Oxford. Melissa Westbrook photographed by Mark Hemsworth, above,  with metamorphosis two in her arms and metamorphosis two looking on. Bring on the weird!

The Botanic Garden has an exhibition of crystals. Anthony Moore got a beautiful, low-key portrait of young Matthew Cooper, aged seven, above, as he examines a Calcite crystal. By placing his flash gun behind his subject he has managed to light the crystal and also created ‘rim lighting’, which just picks up on the outline of Matthew’s  face. Really creative lighting has resulted in a brilliant, while understated portrait by Mr Moore.

Having had many thousands of sport celebration images pass through my hands, I think I’m safe in my conclusion that false modesty has no place within this genre. And this fine display of ecstatic finger pointing, above, ensures that this jubilant bowler makes no exception. There were some big names in Oxford last week as part of The Elders visit to talk about conflict dialogue and peace. The line-up included former US President Jimmy Carter, Hina Jilani and former Irish President Mary Robinson. A fine and dignified portrait by Ed Nix of Kofi Annan at the Sheldonian Theatre, above.

Damian Halliwell was at Hill End outdoor Centre for a family open day at the weekend where they were celebrating 80 years. In addition to his shots of their past, present and future event, he got this great shot, above,  of four-year-old Jacob Leftwich as he trundles past the sign  towering above him.

As many of you will be aware, especially if attempting a leisurely drive last Sunday was the Ride of Respect which saw thousands of bikers riding in convoy through the county. Cracking picture, Damian Halliwell, from the start as they set off from Dalton Barracks, above.
