BICESTER councillors have called-in a controversial decision to approve plans for speed humps on a “main artery” route into town.

Last week Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet member for transport David Nimmo-Smith approved plans to install 16 pairs of cushion speed humps and a puffin crossing in Middleton Stoney Road.

The move has angered Bicester councillors who say there was poor consultation and the proposals are out of date.

They want the decision reviewed.

Ten councillors have signed the call-in papers. One of them, Michael Waine, pictured, described the road hump scheme as “beyond belief”.

He said: “There was a total lack of consultation, and not just consultation, but information. We were unaware of it until councillor Les Sibley happened to see a sign on the road, and that’s not good enough.”

A county council spokesman said: “The performance scrutiny committee will consider the call-in reasons and decide if they have any ‘material concerns’ about it within 15 working days.

“If they do, then the council’s cabinet will receive the committee’s recommendation to reconsider it.

“That meeting must happen within a further 15 working days.”
