HUNDREDS of teachers marched through Oxford yesterday as schools across the county were affected by strikes.
Members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) walked out over workload, pay and pensions.
In Oxfordshire, 23 schools were closed, with a further 75 partially closed. The majority of schools – 195 – managed to stay open.
Teachers walked to Bonn Square from the Radcliffe Camera and handed out leaflets explaining the reasons for the one-day strike.
It is the second strike members have taken this academic year, after a walk-out in October.
NUT Oxfordshire spokesman Ed Finch said: “We are really pleased with the turnout.
“I would think we had between 200 and 300 people. People feel very strongly about this.”
Gemma Golds, a Year 4 teacher at Larkrise Primary School, said she worked up to 60 hours a week.
She said: “I am in my fifth year as a teacher and it should be getting easier, but there is much more focus on data rather than the creative side of teaching, which all adds to a child’s education.”
