MORE than 700 individuals and groups were nominated for this year’s Oxfordshire Youth Awards.

And last night hundreds of people turned up at the New Theatre in George Street, Oxford, to discover the winners.

Now in their fifth year, the awards celebrate the work of youngsters aged 13-19 across the county.

A total of eight individuals and organisations were presented with awards last night.

The community champion award went to Honor Boyle for her work fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, while Maisie Norton received the Jake Spicer Special recognition award for her help organising Wantage Standing Up To Cancer.

The team from Yellow Submarine took home the prize for Youth Project of the Year, while Athena Martin took home the Young Einstein award.

Teenage artist Amber-Lauren Ballantyne-Styles won this year’s Arts Superstar Award.

The sport achievement award went to Eoin Hartwright and the Pride of Oxfordshire award went to Mya Harris.

Morgan Williams received the award for Young Entrepreneur for his work in Barton.

Awards were judged by a youth committee made up of Pansy Pullman, Becca Cross, Courtney Hughes, Kirsty Rix, Dan Mccall, Rachel Munday, Andy Baker and Daniel Robinson.

Paul Lawrence, chief executive of Oxfordshire Youth, said: “This year has been a truly memorable occasion for all involved with the awards.
