King Joke says...

A weekend stay in London won't be much use to an electric car driver unless their hotel has a charging point, or else they'll have to get the train back!

Joking aside, range limitations mean electric cars can only work for journeys in urban areas where a personal car is not really the optimal solution and public transport is available.

I can only see these working in suburban areas, rural areas close to towns... or on the Isle of Wight!

80-100 mile range is still pretty good though. Another 60 miles if you have the optional extender unit (small petrol generator).

At least both Oxford & London do have charging points...

Indeed, just checking now, you can park all day at Westfield shopping centre for £5 and recharge your car for free!

Suddenly the cost of commuting into London by private car becomes very economical indeed.

Until a Labour mayor gets back in, and suddenly the costs will quadruple..

You have to know how long the battery will last before replacement is needed and how much it would cost. I hope that the final cost for that journey to London would not be as expensive as taking the coach or train !
