Initial designs for a new sports club building will be presented to the Bicester Sports Village project board this month.

The move is part of plans to develop the sports complex on land at the new Kingsmere estate.

A planning application for a clubhouse and changing rooms is expected to be submitted in April and, if approved, construction could start in November.

It would mean phases one and two, the new pitches and clubhouse, could open for use from September 2015.

The contract to design and build the facility was awarded last year to Morgan Sindall, which is also building Cherwell District Council’s new £5m community centre on the estate. A council report said officers would seek £2.35m funding for phase three – athletics facilities, astroturf pitch and tennis courts.

It said: “Officers are currently working with local sports clubs and relevant sports’ national governing bodies to produce a sports development plan for the town.

“This plan will form part of the funding strategy and is necessary in seeking further external funding.”

One idea is to share the cost and use of facilities with a planned secondary school near the sports village.

That will be discussed by the Cherwell project board later this month.
