ELEVEN flood alerts remain in place across Oxfordshire this morning.

Most of the Thames in the county as well as the Cherwell, Ock, Leach and Evenlode are all subject to alerts, meaning flooding is possible and residents nearby should be prepared:

  • The River Thames is on alert from Buscot near Faringdon to Henley, including Oxford, Radley, Jericho, Abingdon, Eynsham and Wallingford.
  • The River Cherwell is on alert from Charwelton to Oxford including Upper Heyford, Lower Heyford, Banbury and Hook Norton.
  • The River Ock from Watchfield to Abingdon is on alert as well as the Letcombe Brook at Wantage, Grove and East Hanney.
  • In West Oxfordshire, both the Evenlode and the Glyme are on alert, including Wootton and Woodstock.
  • The River Leach from Northleach to Mill Lane near Lechlade and the River Thame and Chalgrove Brook are also on alert.

Heavy rain is set to hit the county later today with more arriving at the weekend.

Earlier this week Environment Agency officers cleared debris blocking a weir at King's Lock in North Oxford and Iffley weir and said it could put  up demountable defence barriers in Osney Island and Lake Street in Oxford if the situation worsened.

The EA and Oxford City Council will provide sandbags if flooding worsens.
