A GREEN group has saved more than a tonne of people’s junk from landfill and turned it into desirable pieces.

Lamps, bicycles, furniture and small electrical items are taken into Bicester Green’s workshop for its volunteer team to weave its magic.

The revamped goods are then sold to help make the project sustainable.

Quirky items for sale have included a pair of old speakers turned into bedside tables, chairs that have been reupholstered and revived lamps and reconditioned bicycles.

Bicester Green also has repaired dozens of hair-dryers and sold them for between £2 and £5. Manager Emma Gordon said: “All these items would have been destined for landfill had the volunteers at Bicester Green not intervened.

“If someone has got an item and they were thinking we are going to take this to the tip, and the charity shop’s not going to take it because the leg’s wobbly, we are the bit in between.”

Bicester Green shares premises with charity Sobell House Hospice on McKay Trading Estate, Bicester.
