ONE lucky competition winner got the first taste of her winning culinary creation at a Witney pub.

Imogen Holt, nine, designed the “Sausage Boat” which is now on the children’s menu of the Blue Boar in Market Square.

Imogen, a pupil at The Batt Primary School, also won book tokens and sports equipment vouchers worth £100 for her school. And the reasons behind her dish were simple.

Imogen said: “Lots of children like sausages and it’s a fun and enjoyable way to eat vegetables – it’s a fab meal and the food selection together tastes really nice.”

The competition was run across Oakman Inns’ pubs in Oxfordshire during the summer holidays.

It was the first Design A Dish competition it has run and Imogen was not the only winner.

Fenn Hewitt, 11, of Moulsford Preparatory School created a Make Your Own Pizza which will go on the menu at the Old Post Office in Wallingford.

The head chefs at both pubs picked their favourite dishes.

Oakman Inns’ chief executive officer Peter Borg-Neal said: “We’re on the way to discovering the next generation of Master Chefs and star bakers.

“It’s just so important for us all to learn about our food and where it comes from and, more importantly, the social values involved in producing good quality, seasonal dishes made with local ingredients.”
