Residents urged to give a festive present of blood

Bicester Advertiser: Residents urged to give a festive present of blood Residents urged to give a festive present of blood

The NHS is calling for Oxfordshire residents to give blood over Christmas.

The blood and transplant team has said November to January is a tough time for blood stocks.

Hospitals in England and North Wales will need up to half a million units of blood to see them through Christmas.

Dominic Sutherland, from the NHS blood and transplant team for Oxfordshire, said: “This is an extremely challenging time of year for us as we need to make sure that hospitals are supplied with the blood they need to treat patients over the Christmas holidays.

“So while people are in a generous frame of mind, we’re asking that they don’t forget those whose must-have gift is blood. Donating doesn’t cost a penny and saves lives, meaning many more children and adults can spend precious time with their families over Christmas.’’ Blood donor sessions in Crowmarsh Village Hall in Benson Lane on December 17 from 1.30pm until 3.30pm and 4.15pm until 7.15pm, Charlgrove Village Hall in Baronhurst Drive on December 24 from 10.30am until 3pm, and Abingdon United Football Ground in Northcourt Road on December 31 from 10.30am until 3pm.
