THIS stunning mosaic of a seaside scene was made entirely by amateur artists over the age of 70 over the course of a year.

The visitors to Abingdon Health and Wellbeing Centre worked on the piece on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

None of them had ever made a mosaic before.

It was unveiled last Friday by deputy mayor Angela Lawrence.

She said: “It is absolutely amazing.”

The 7ft by 7ft artwork was made in eight sections and shows a sea view populated with palm trees and boats.

It was started in November last year and finished last month.

The Health and Wellbeing Centre in Audlett Drive provides activities, including art classes and quizzes, for older people and those with special needs.

Mrs Lawrence said: “It does a very good thing.

“They have all sorts of different activities intended to help people socialise.

“This project was great because they could sit around having a chat as well as doing something worthwhile.

“These things keep the brain going. The more you keep challenging yourself, the healthier you are.”
