Bid for thousands of new jobs in science
11:00am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
A bid to create 30,000 jobs and expand the county’s science and technology industries has been unveiled.
Oxfordshire County Council and other organisations have revealed a plan to claw back powers from central Government through “city deal” status.
If the bid is approved by the Government, the council will get more power over items like transport links, training and further education, which it can use to prompt economic growth.
The council and its partners – Oxford City Council, Oxford University and Oxford Brookes, the Local Enterprise Partnership and the science centres at Culham and Harwell – have pledged to raise £1.9m in private investment for the scheme.
