Pub landlord sinks some cash into old well
7:00am Friday 16th August 2013 in News
A BICESTER pub has undergone a £360,000 refurbishment – some of the cash being sunk in a new attraction.
Builders digging foundations for an extension to The White Hart, in Sheep Street, found “debris started disappearing into the hole”. They uncovered a well, which they found a way of making a feature in the pub.
Landlord Aidan Conway believes the structure dates back to 1129. He said: “We have built it to table height and included a glass viewing panel.”
The 10.5m-deep well has a layer of silt at the bottom. The renovated pub was reopened last Friday by Bicester mayor Melanie Magee.
